Leak Detection Service Near Me
Leak detection in La Palma starts at the water meter in your front yard. If the meter shows water moving while everything in the house is off, there is a leak somewhere past the meter, and our job is to find exactly where before any wall, floor or lawn gets opened.
Check the meter first
Many La Palma homes have Neptune radio-read meters, and the city publishes a guide to reading them. The box sits in the front yard near the street. Lift the meter’s lid and the light-activated display wakes up, alternating between your usage reading and the current flow rate. Turn off every faucet, the washer, the dishwasher and the sprinklers. The flow rate should read 0000. If it shows anything else, water is going somewhere.
The meter also has a leak icon. The city’s guide explains that a flashing icon means water ran during at least 50 of the 96 fifteen-minute periods in the past day, a sign of an intermittent leak. An icon that stays lit means water ran in all 96, which is what a steady leak looks like. Please don’t force the valve in the box: the city holds owners responsible for damage to the meter valve caused while turning it, and asks residents to let city staff shut the water off.
Where leaks hide in La Palma houses
La Palma grew fast, from 622 residents in 1960 to 9,687 in 1970, and SCAG’s data dates about 78 percent of today’s homes to the 1960s and 1970s, most of them single-family detached houses. Many Southern California homes of that era sit on a concrete slab, with copper water lines running under or through it. After fifty or sixty years those lines can wear thin where they rub against concrete or gravel. Places we check:
- Under the slab: a warm patch on the floor, the sound of running water with everything off, or damp carpet with no obvious source.
- Toilets: the city’s conservation page calls toilet leaks the most common indoor problem it sees, and says one can waste up to 4,000 gallons a year.
- Water heater: a weeping tank, a dripping relief valve or a failing connector.
- Irrigation: a cracked sprinkler line or a valve that won’t fully close, often given away by one patch of lawn that stays soggy.
- Pools and spas: the city’s watering rules allow filling only on designated days between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m., so a pool that needs topping up more often than that deserves a leak check.
How we pinpoint it
We confirm the leak at the meter, then shut off sections of the system to narrow it down: house or yard, hot side or cold side, one branch or another. A leak that only shows on the hot side often means a hot line under the slab. From there we pressure test isolated lines, use acoustic equipment to hear water escaping through concrete, and use thermal imaging to spot the warm trail a hot-water leak leaves. The goal is a mark on the floor or the ground, not a guess.
Fixing a slab leak
Once the leak is found there are usually two paths. A spot repair opens the floor right at the leak and replaces that piece. A reroute abandons the line under the slab and runs new pipe through the walls or attic, which avoids breaking concrete and makes sense when the old line has more than one weak point. We lay out the trade-offs on site, and our main leak detection page covers each method. If the tank itself is leaking, see our water heater service.
The city’s side and yours
Most of the city’s water is groundwater from the basin the Orange County Water District manages, with imported water added. If water is coming up at the meter box or in the street, report it to Public Works at (714) 690-3310. Pipe on the house side of the meter is generally the owner’s responsibility, and the city’s conservation rules call for leaks, breaks and other malfunctions to be repaired promptly, or within two days of notification. When a repair needs a permit, La Palma’s Building and Safety Division handles it online through OpenGov.

Hello everyone! I'm here to let you know that if you're in need of a plumber then I recommend Rooter flusher and drains 👍 My kitchen sink got clogged Saturday night due to buildup. Unfortunately Sunday morning the sinks were still filled up with nasty water and the smell of sewer started to come up 😭 I was worried that we weren't going to find a plumber during the weekend but my husband found this company and was able to make an appointment in the afternoon with Iggy Perez. Thank God and Iggy that he was able to fix it 🙏 He did an amazing job and was super fast 👍😁 I recommend Rooter flusher plumbing & drains to everyone 👍Posted on Google![]()
